PLYWALL® by Hoover Treated Wood Products, Inc. is a pre-engineered, ASTM tested, preservative-treated wood noise barrier system with acoustic performance that is better than or comparable to concrete and masonry. In addition to supporting heights up to 30 feet (9.14 m), PLYWALL can supply noise barriers capable of withstanding wind loads as high as 60 psf.
PLYWALL is a post and panel system, consisting of prefabricated, preservative-treated wood framed panels, supported between preservative-treated Parallam® PSL engineered timber posts. The prefabricated wood framed panels are 8 feet (2.4 m), 12 feet (3.7 m) or 16 feet (4.9 m) wide and are covered on both sides with preservative-treated, exterior-rated 4 × 8 feet texture 1-11 plywood. Typically 23⁄4 inches (69.9 mm) thick, the panels are secured to the posts within channels created by pressure treated 4 × 4 inches (101.6 × 101.6 mm) cleats, spiked or lagged parallel to the posts.
Pressure treated Parallam PSL engineered timber posts support the panels at exposed heights to 24 inches (609.6 mm); 30 inches (762 mm) can be obtained under limited circumstances. The posts are embedded in the ground to a depth of roughly half the exposed height of the barrier and backfilled with crushed stone or concrete. The posts and outstanding uptake preservatives provide a durable, long lasting barrier.
