According to the EPA, nearly two-thirds of energy used to generate electricity is wasted in the form of heat discharged to the atmosphere. What’s more, additional energy is wasted during the distribution of electricity to end-users.
Cogeneration is a more efficient, less expensive and more earth-conscious way to generate heat and power. The process is often referred to as combined heat and power, or CHP, because most cogeneration systems are used to supply electricity and heat. This term might be limiting because it does so much more, as the heat energy from the electricity production can also be used for absorption cooling, dehumidification, pool water heating, process heat and other purposes.
