Bernard Markstein, Reed, Ken Simonson, AGC, and Kermit Baker, AIA, share their insight in a free economic webcast, The 2014 Outlook: Emerging Opportunities for Construction, on October 17, 2013.
Reed Construction Data announces its annual fall economic webcast, featuring industry-recognized chief economists, Ken Simonson of The Associated General Contractors of America, Kermit Baker of the American Institute of Architects and Bernard Markstein of Reed. The free webcast, The 2014 Outlook: Emerging Opportunities for Construction, is set for October 17, 2013.
By most accounts, the highly-anticipated construction recovery is underway and is expected to gain momentum in 2014. The three economic experts will address issues expected to affect the construction industry – positively or negatively - into 2014.
“Despite several potential pitfalls facing the economy this fall and beyond, including the shutdown and debt ceiling dilemma, many forecasters are projecting a turn-around for construction in 2014,” stated Bernard Markstein, Ph.D., U.S. Chief Economist, Reed Construction Data. “In this webcast, we will address positive signs, as well as risks that will affect construction in the upcoming year.”
Topics for the economy-based webcast include:
■ The outlook for single-family and multifamily residential construction
■ Bright spots for nonresidential construction
■ The effect congressional wrangling is having on the U.S. infrastructure
■ Implications of expanding North American energy supplies
■ Probable materials price spikes and shortages
■ The impact of the Affordable Healthcare Act on construction
■ Geographic markets with the best prospects for construction
The event also features a new host, economics and market intelligence expert, Louis Centorcelli of Reed.
“With the continued uncertainty surrounding federal government spending on construction, it is important to be engaged in those segments likely to grow in the year ahead,” stated Louis Centorcelli. “Strategic thinkers across the country can benefit from the insight provided by this outstanding team of economists.”
The live broadcast is October 17, 2013, and runs from noon to 1:30 p.m., EDT. Sponsored by InfoTech International, this lively, interactive webcast is open to everyone.
The economists take questions from the online audience in the last half-hour of the broadcast. Registered AIA members who watch the live broadcast will be eligible for 1.5 AIA CEU continuing education credit, and all non-members can request a certificate of completion. Those who cannot attend the live broadcast can register to view the archived presentation and download the presentation slides.
